Hello.
I have a feeling that this is a dumb question, but does the blocking bad bots .htaccess code block by IP address? Or does it use something more reliable, like a bot's suspicious user agent.
My site is behind a proxy, so IPs don't really reach my server anyway.
Thanks,
[D]

Reading About 7G will give you more information about how it works.

Re: Blocking bad bots
I just added it. Based on what I read, it doesn't use IP, and thus should work.
What finally motivated me to install it was the number of guests on my site going from zero to three-hundred-forty within less than a minute. I'm surprised the server didn't crash. It isn't as bad as the attacks you have received but still.
It's sad we have professional groups dedicated to doing this kind of crap.

Isn't it just? But at least there are ways to fight it, and the 8G version of this script is now in BETA testing so as soon as that is released I will update the .HTACCESS' in the topicRandom American wrote: Mon Mar 27, 2023 5:05 pm It's sad we have professional groups dedicated to doing this kind of crap.
I have been using it on all of the boards I host and maintain since I first discovered it and so far never had an issue.
