I am creating an forum for my students so it is a closed community and was wondering if i create a nonsensical question and an answer that doesn't relate is there a way for the spambot to break it?

Yes, if you set the question to "Enter your invitation code" and the answer to any load of nonsense (in the past I have used a password generator like the one HERE to create the code) and email that code to anyone you want to join the forum.

That should keep everyone else out, bots included.

Just remember than the answer should not be a primary colour, number or a common word. Those are programmed into bots already.
